2014 - Henderson Trophy

2014 Durbin salver and Henderson Trophy Winner Billy-Joe Bugden Parkstone.

Dudsbury GC Tuesdayday 15 April 2014

Final

Billy-Joe & Harry    Billy-Joe Bugden Parkstone v Harry Willsher Parkstone  The big question was could Billy-Joe make it a double this year and win the Henderson for the first time? Well he got off to a great start with a birdie at the first with Harry then slipping up at the next two Billy was three up after three.  Harry got his composure back to birdie the fourth to bring it back to two and they then halved the fifth.  The six and seventh were conceded by Billy after some more fine play by Harry and he was back on level terms. They halved the next and Billy won the ninth to turn 1 up.  With both making five on the next harry seized the initiative by taking the next two holes to go one up for the first time in the match.  Billy struck straight back taking the thirteenth with a par he then also took the next to go back to one up.  They then halved the next and Harry made par on the sixteenth to make it all square. A great putt by Billy on the next kept it all level up the last and when Billy second came to rest on 18 inches from the hole the pressure was on Harry who’s birdie putt just missed, so fittingly Billy won the match with a birdie 3 on the last.

Semi's

Billy-Joe & Tom  Billy-Joe played Tom Plumb and was in control from the start with some fine golf and birdies galore final winning 4&3 to secure his final place.
Harry & Bradley Bradley Cox found it tough going against an inform Harry Willsher, Harry was in control for most of the match and again found it hard to close out over the last couple of holes ut he did manage to hang on to set up a final place against Billy-Joe.

Round 4

Sherborne G C Monday 7 April 2014

The final round of the Henderson was played at a very wet and Windy Sherborne today.  A few players decide that they would not play due to the Four Counties in Cornwall starting tomorrow but those that did play put on a brave performance in such dire conditions.  Bradley Cox from Broadstone had a stunning level par round of 72 to win this round and ensure his place in the match play.  Young Tom Plump from Yeovil was second with 77 followed by Ashley Woods Sam Russell on 78.  Harry willsher Parkstone and Yeovil’s Adam Harris came next with 79.   Billy-Joe Bugden took the Keith Durbin salver on 145 with Bradley Cox coming second on 149 Third place went to Adam Harris on 154.  Congratulations to all those who braved the day, our thanks also to Sherborne for letting us use the course for the event.

Round 2

Wareham GC Thursday 2 January 2014

So after the wash out on Monday and with the sun shining we managed to get the second round of the Henderson played today at Wareham.  The course whilst wet was fully open and we thank the club for affording us the move and allowing us to get this round completed.  Given the conditions and all the rain we have had the boys did remarkably well and there were some good score to record.  Best in was once more Billy-Joe who had a fine gross 72 after a bad start and a double up the eighth.   James Durrant from Ferndown took second spot with a fine 74 but found the short par three eleventh hard to master.  Alex Fernandez Parkstone, Current holder Jack Baker Knighton Heath and Yeovil’s Adam Harris were next all on 75.  Kailin Woodland from Parkstone who plays off 11 fired home a  good 78 and will feel at home as Parkstone is our next venue in February.

Round 1

Lyme Regis GC Saturday 14 December 2013

We were at Lyme Regis for the delayed first round of the 2014 Henderson Trophy.  The first attempt back in October was postponed due to the severe winds and storms and to be fair it was going to be a great test today with the wind speed continually increasing throughout the day that said it did stay dry.  Local Stuart Wight led the way coming home in 78 which could have been so much better but for a double on the seventeenth and having driven through the green on the last could only finish with a bogey, playing partner James singleton had a  79.  Next in was Billy-Joe  had a great 73 for the day so good to see him still maintaining his form which saw him break into the County Squad this year.  Young Tom Plumb playing off 3 had a very good 79 which again had he managed to keep the 7 start and the mid round 8 off his card could have been so much better.  Steffen Foley showed great skill coming home in 76, a very steady round.  We thank Lyme for rearranging the fixture and allowing us to play and we now look forward to round two at Wareham after Christmas.
