Sherborne G C Monday 7 April 2014
The final round of the Henderson was played at a very wet and Windy Sherborne today. A few players decide that they would not play due to the Four Counties in Cornwall starting tomorrow but those that did play put on a brave performance in such dire conditions. Bradley Cox from Broadstone had a stunning level par round of 72 to win this round and ensure his place in the match play. Young Tom Plump from Yeovil was second with 77 followed by Ashley Woods Sam Russell on 78. Harry willsher Parkstone and Yeovil’s Adam Harris came next with 79. Billy-Joe Bugden took the Keith Durbin salver on 145 with Bradley Cox coming second on 149 Third place went to Adam Harris on 154. Congratulations to all those who braved the day, our thanks also to Sherborne for letting us use the course for the event.

So after the wash out on Monday and with the sun shining we managed to get the second round of the Henderson played today at Wareham. The course whilst wet was fully open and we thank the club for affording us the move and allowing us to get this round completed. Given the conditions and all the rain we have had the boys did remarkably well and there were some good score to record. Best in was once more Billy-Joe who had a fine gross 72 after a bad start and a double up the eighth. James Durrant from Ferndown took second spot with a fine 74 but found the short par three eleventh hard to master. Alex Fernandez Parkstone, Current holder Jack Baker Knighton Heath and Yeovil’s Adam Harris were next all on 75. Kailin Woodland from Parkstone who plays off 11 fired home a good 78 and will feel at home as Parkstone is our next venue in February.

We were at Lyme Regis for the delayed first round of the 2014 Henderson Trophy. The first attempt back in October was postponed due to the severe winds and storms and to be fair it was going to be a great test today with the wind speed continually increasing throughout the day that said it did stay dry. Local Stuart Wight led the way coming home in 78 which could have been so much better but for a double on the seventeenth and having driven through the green on the last could only finish with a bogey, playing partner James singleton had a 79. Next in was Billy-Joe had a great 73 for the day so good to see him still maintaining his form which saw him break into the County Squad this year. Young Tom Plumb playing off 3 had a very good 79 which again had he managed to keep the 7 start and the mid round 8 off his card could have been so much better. Steffen Foley showed great skill coming home in 76, a very steady round. We thank Lyme for rearranging the fixture and allowing us to play and we now look forward to round two at Wareham after Christmas.
