County Stroke Play Championship 2018Lee James Stroke Play winner

Parkstone Golf Club 12 August 2018

The County Stroke Play Championship got under way at Parkstone Golf Club on what may have been the wettest day of August.   We had a full start sheet which was only marred by those failing to turn up and with both the Current County Champion and the current holder of the Stroke Play Championship we had a battle royal for this year's Championship.  The early leader was Parkston's Sam Brooke who had a very fine level par 71.  Harry Mitchell had 74 with Andy Rideout on 72 and Andrew Robson on 73.  Sam Trott also did well with a fine 74 but only two players managed to break par and they were David Cook on 68 and Lee James on 70 so the afternoon round would turn into an possible match play situation!

The afternoon saw the rain drift in and then out but when it came in it was heavy making sure all the players got a soaking at some time and with some low cloud making the referees job more challenging it was a great afternoon at Parkstone. The weather had it's effect on the scoring which was proving to be challenging.  Sam Brooke could only manage a 77.  Harry Mitchell improved by one with a fine 72 moving him up the leader board.  Andrew Robson, Justin Morris, Tom Leech, Alex Johnston and Sam Trott all had 74.  as we waited for the last group to finish we saw that David Cook came home in level par with his playing partner Lee James coming home two under with a 69 which put both players on a 139 total and giving Lee the title for the second year on countback.  So congratulations to Lee James on retaining the Stroke Play Championship.
