2015 Winners - Canford Magna GC

The 2015 Junior Knockout competition came to a conclusion at Sturminster Marshall GC on Friday 21 August with Knighton Heath playing last year’s winners Yeovil in the first semi-final and Sherborne took on Canford Magna in the other.  The weather was fine and the course was in very good condition so there were no excuses and some great match play golf was forth coming from the players as they fought it out to see who would prevail to this year’s final.  Both matches were tight affairs and both looked like they may well need to go to extra holes, The first was decided when Knight Heaths John Ahern turned it around to win one up on the last to secure the teams victory.  The other match was tight Tom Plumb put the first point on the board for Sherborne and this was closely followed by a second as Adam Harris saw off U16 team mate Jacob Hunter 2&1 Canford then took the next three points with some fine wins.  In the last match Sherborne’s Lewis Coward came to the last 1 up so it looked like a playoff loomed.  But Canford’s dean Parthenis had other thoughts, both players came up short, Lewis chipped on to about 10 foot but then dean stepped up and chipped in to win the hole and take Canford into the final.

The final got under way and to be fair the this match swung back and forth as we travelled around, with Knighton putting up a stern fight as they were one down from the start with only five players being available.  Alex Pouliasis pulled it level beating Joe Rice 2&1.  Jacob Hunter put Canford back in front with a 2&1 win over Rhys Card.  The next was nip and tuck Jordon white was one up with two to play but Liam Wilson-Carrol turned it around taking the last two holes for a one hole win.  Young John Ahern pulled it level once again with a 3&2 win over Sam North so it was then down to the young Andy Su who was against Lauren Purchase this again was very tight and they came to the last all square, Lauren produced a great tee shot to be around 10 foot from the flag and when young Andy failed to get down in four Lauren took her chance to seal the match for Canford Magna who became the 2015 Knockout Champions.
