Nigel Green - 2015 Seniors Amateur Champion

The Seniors Championship was played at Dudsbury GC, the championship is played over two days completing 36 holes of Stroke Play to give us our County Champion.  The course proved to be a great test for all those taking part and the weather was great with the sun shining but there was also a good breeze to test the players around a superbly presented course which made scoring difficult.   Gary Roberts Yeovil led the way early on with an 82 along with Dave Boon DG&CC.  The Seniors Captain Nigel Green now DG&CC had an 81 along with David Fidge Lyme Regis.  John Hayes Ashley Wood last year’s Champion was well placed with a 78 along with Richard Thomas Ferndown and just one ahead after the first round was David Barton Christchurch.

First Round Scores

So the start sheet was duly flipped so players go out in the previous days result order we got under way with clear skies and the sun shining brightly, scoring proved to be better than the first day Bob Dilkes led the way with 80 for a total of 165 one better than Graham Taylor.  It was down to the last two groups and Nigel Green came home with a fine 74 for a 155 total and the lead.  The last group arrived home and Richard Thomas had 85 putting him in fourth place on 163 and Dave Barton had a 78 to tie the lead on 155 with John Hayes having a 77 to also finish on 155.  With no playoff in the rules the championship went to Nigel Green with his fine 74 the best round of the Championship. Nigel also took the Handicap Championship for the second time with a net one under total some four clear of runner up John Hayes.  John put up a fine defence of his titles coming runner up in both.

Second Round Scores

A hearty meal was had by all players followed by the prize presentation.  My thanks to all competitors and it is such a shame more don’t play in this event.
