Category I & II Championship

Bulbury Woods GC 02 September 2014

The Category I & II Championships were played at the ever impressive Bulbury Woods GC on what started a damp lunch time but turned in to a glorious sunny afternoon with little wind so ideal for golf.  The course was going to prove a stern test for all the competitors especially the greens which were good fast and true along with some very tricky pin positions.  We had a fair turnout for the championship this year and the early starter was last year’s winner Phil Allen who did exceptionally well in the EG Gold medal coming runner up just two weeks ago but it was not his day as he found the greens to difficult.  Mark Selway from Sherborne enjoyed his round coming home in 74 net 72 but the best round belonged to Brad Cox who qualified via Sturminster Marshall.  Brad had a fine 73 net 71 which included two birdies a very steady round of golf by the youngster. Broadstone’s Ashley Harvey came in third place with a fine net 75.
So congratulations to Brad Cox on being crowned the County Category I Champion, he now had a nervous wait to see if he would also go forward to next year’s EG Gold Medal event.

So The Category II Championship was once again well contested from players around the County and early leader was Sherborne’s Hugh Williams who had a net 77 Ian Sinclair from Bournemouth & Meyrick also had 77 and took the clubhouse lead on count back then in came Broadstone’s Tom Reid with a fine net 72 just one short of Brad which left him smarting still over the double taken at the eightieth.  Dave Pope from Bulbury was still out there and he could only managed a net 72 also but lost out on count back to Tom who was crowned the County Category II Champion.

Third: Ian Sinclair Bournemouth & Meyrick Park GC
