County Boys Foursomes ChampionshipScratch & Handicap Champions

Yeovil GC Friday 19 August 2011

After the floods in Dorset on the Thursday it was wall to wall sunshine as we arrived at Yeovil GC for this year’s County Boys Foursomes Championship.  A disappointing number got worse with two pairs dropping out the day before but the Junior Sub Committee is committed to introducing this format to the boys calendar as they see it as an important part of their County education and it is an ideal opportunity for club players to hone their skills at this challenging format not only helping at County level but also at club in events such as Beckford Bowl, Brokenhurst Stag, Stoke Salver and Longmore Shield.

Defending Champions Billy-Joe Bugden and Fraser Dawson were here to defend their title and a 75 first round score was leading in the morning from three 79’s.  Matt Keel and Alex Shenton with a net 71 were the morning leaders in the handicap section.
The afternoon round was no different as Billy and Fraser came home in level par three shots clear of Dan & Ben Oliver who had 75.  The handicap trophy was hotting up and in the end this went to the two boys from Lyme Regis George Seed and George Yorke two shots clear of Harry Willsher and Nathan Lake. Sadly for Matt and Alex the afternoon round proved difficult.

My thanks to all who players who took part and supported the event we will try again next year at The Dorset Golf and Country Club on Wednesday 15 August let’s hope we get more support next year.
