Weymouth Golf Club 08 August 2011

It was a nice clear sunny day at Weymouth as we got this years Adult / Junior Foursomes Championship under way.  The week previous it was unsure it would be played as only one pair had entered, but after some frantic phoning around we had 26 pairs playing and my thanks to them all for ensuring the competition went ahead.  After much deliberation it was decided to make the Competition a Greensomes with a twist!  This meant every one drove off but on the first hole it determined which player played the second shot on the odd holes and which played the second on the evens (the twist).  I do believe all enjoyed the format and it was less pressure all round as each player could have a drive and after the first it didn’t matter which ball was played making it much more enjoyable all round and the scoring proved that to be the case.  Luke Shaw & Steven Welch Weymouth Golf Club set the early pace with 40 points, they were joined by Spencer Rumble & Sonny Wilkinson Ferndown, Andy Chambers & Jack Chambers Weymouth and Tom Parsons & Steve Powell Dudsbury.   Sean Dimmick with late replacement & Thomas Robson Weymouth came home with a very good 41 points which was matched by their playing partners William Benge & George Mansfield Bridport & West Dorset who went to the top of the leader board on count back.  The Chapman brothers James and Michael Broadstone also had a good 41 points and were thinking of the four putts on the first with James having driven the green!  They say the best is always last and that proved to be the case firstly when Phillip Allen & Callum Ward Wareham coming home with a fantastic 42 points but their lead was short lived as the Weymouth final pair of Alex Middlebrook & Eddie Waring matched the 42 points and with 24 points on the back nine took the title on count back.
