LANHYDROCK GC 07 – 08 JULY 2010David Lock SW Seniors Champion

Congratulations to David lock Lyme Regis GC for winning the SWCGA Seniors Championship on a hilly Lanhydrock course. David was not planning to play as he was recovering from a knee injury but the hero he is standing in at the last minute for John Nash who was taken ill at the Kent match and is still recovering. David had a steady 74 on the first day and a real shaky start to his second but all he was interested in was ensuring he kept a respectable card for the team competition. His 71 and 145 total was enough to tie the lead with Gloucestershire's David Potter 71 - 74, so it was down to a play off and on the first a great birdie from the sand on the first was enough to give David the title. As can be seen in the photo below David was still in total shock and thanking the Lord! It is nice to welcome Campbell Boal back after a long lay off through injury a previous winner he had a 72 to finish tied third on 146 a shot behind.

The Dorset team will be going to this year's EGU Seniors County finals at on the home course of Ferndown. Every player in the Dorset side broke 80 in both rounds the only team to do so and this ensured the team won through with a very good 736 total 6 shots clear of there nearest rivals Gloucestershire who had 742. The sound performance from all ensured the team picked up the coveted prize and Dorset will of course do there utmost in representing the SW Counties at the National final again. The captain is busily planning his practice sessions and we hope that this year we will get the foursomes right. (The wine was bought by Parkstone on the Wednesday night as neither score counted!!)

Captains Report:

I cannot tell you how proud I am of my team and David becoming the SW Champion was even more icing on the cake. After John phoned with yesterday's results I spent a restless night hoping you would come through. By the time (about 2am) I had started composing a victory speech for the Finals prizegiving I decided that maybe another warm drink and hopefully some sleep was needed.

I am now busy organising with Ferndown some practise days so that we have the foursomes pairings and who plays the odds sorted out in plenty of time.

Once again well done.
