Cyril Nash Memorial Trophy

Wareham GC 06 August 2010

Steffen Foley Cyril Nash Winner

With most courses needing rain it was the case that on the day of the event we should have some persistent drizzle making it difficult for the youngsters taking part in this established County Junior Competition. Still it did not dampen the spirits of some youngsters especially the home side of Wareham who had a team in for the second consecutive year which is good to see. Only 7 clubs from within the County entered teams a total of only 45 youngsters, a sad reduction from last year lets hope more clubs will enter next year. There was some excellent play on a very well presented course and local lad Steffen Foley set a cracking pace by coming home with 41 points a total that was going to be difficult to beat, his team mate Elliott Baczala tried very hard coming in with 40 points one point better than last year. The local knowledge proved to be key this year as players struggled to break par. Tom Merrick Broadstone was the next highest in with a good level 36 points. Wareham had the team event sown up and the battle was for second place with Canford just pipping Highcliffe by the odd point.

The Junior Committee wish to thank all those who took part and for there support to this event it is a great opportunity to allow club youngsters with a higher handicap to represent the club in a competitive competition and we hope more will support the event next year which will be held at Wareham GC on Friday 5 August 2011.
