Result: Dorset 3½ Hampshire 6½
Match report: The day started with a forecast of heavy rain in the afternoon and although we started a little earlier than arranged the entire match was played in heavy rain with a strong wind. The course and greens stood up to it very well. Unfortunately from a Dorset point of view the Hampshire first four got off to a very fast start.............

The team went up to the Lansdown Club on the Sunday but due to a Race meeting were only able to play nine holes of practise. Whilst the course seemed to be a straight forward parkland type course in fact local knowledge turned out to be vital............

Result: Dorset 5 Surrey 5
Match report: An idyllic summer’s day on the Surrey hills, although a little warm, and a very pleasant golf course. The greens were rather slow and proved tricky. Early on I thought we were heading for our third win of the season but eventually I was quite glad to settle for an half. As with the match against Kent the excitement came at the end. David Topp was one up but his opponent pegged him back with a great 15 foot birdie putt across a difficult 16th green..............

Result: Dorset 6 Kent 4
Match report: Well what an epic day for the Dorset Senior Team. Kent arrived the day after winning their National Qualifying competition by 21 shots, and the team included both the new English Seniors’ Champion and runner up along with another team member who had just won the Irish Seniors’. On the other hand in all the years of the SE league Dorset had never even been close to halving a match with Kent, normally losing by 9-1 or 8-2 etc. The course was in beautiful condition and the Head Greenkeeper had double cut, dressed and rolled the greens to give a very fast and true surface.............

Result: Dorset 6½ Sussex 3½
Match report: Cowdray Park is a pleasant, undulating parkland style course on top of the Sussex Downs. The weather was sunny, but a little chilly when the Sun went behind a cloud. Last year I said that despite several close results we never looked like winning. This year things were always much closer and the very best thing from my point of view was that of the four matches that left the sixteenth green all square we came away with 3½ points, which shows how much more competitive we have become.
