Broadstone GC Sunday 10 August 2008
With a good sized field for this year’s championship and no entry from last years Champion Ben Churchill the scene was set for a new name on the trophy. With the rain stopping but a stiff wind blowing the Championship got under with the 2008 County Champion Tim Adams leading the way sadly for him his first ball was lost and the long walk back to the tee meant a slight delay to the field. David Norton from Parkstone had the best round in the morning with a superb 69 followed in by Luke Joy 71 and the old hand Mark Davies 72. Calvin Drage (Weymouth) had a good 73 putting him in contention for the Weymouth Jubilee Cup. Scoring proved to be difficult as the increase to the CSS showed going to 73 for the morning round.
The second round got under way David Norton slipped up on the second round and came home in 73 whilst Luke Joy emulated David's first round score of 69 which I am led to believe included losing a ball. This round was enough to ensure he took the 2008 Stroke play Championship with a total of 140 two shots clear of David Norton 142 with Mark Davies (Ferndown) finishing third on 144. Luke Joy 2008 Stroke Play ChampionIt proved to be a very rewarding day for Luke Winning the Donald Holmes Championship Cup 70,71,71,69 total 281 and also pinching the Weymouth Jubilee Cup on count back from Charles Du Pay and Calvin Drage whose lack of concentration on the last over a small putt cost him the trophy.
