Result: Dorset 2? - Surrey 9?
Match report: The first and last pairs gained excellent wins with Rowan Smith and Lloyd Walton just losing by 2&1. After a lightish lunch we launched into the singles with James Wythe spear-heading the attack. James, Lloyd and Corey all lost by 1 down ? a truly creditable result. Mike Evans and Rowan succumbed 2&1 and 3&2 respectively ? good matches both. David King-Underwood suffered a Stiggy attack losing 6&5 with Stiggy 5 under the card after 13 holes. Dorset?s head was held high by Matt Hector who was 2 down going into the last three holes. A do-or-die blast with driver earned him a birdie on 16th, another over the tree cornered 17th to close to the green got him another birdie. All square at the last and a bravely holed ten-footer for par gained him a well deserved half. Great stuff! Though the result was 9 ? to 2 ? to Surrey the overall match was much tighter than the score indicates.

Dudsbury Golf Club
On a still sunny morning the SW Youth Championship got under way at Dudsbury GC. The course and facilities were in superb condition and some fine golf was on display during the morning especially as Dorset?s Matt Hector who approached the last 5 under, sadly a lip out meant he had to settle for a 67 but still managed to break the course record.
The team was in fourth place after the first round but with some fine golf played by all players we only managed fifth place in the end. Matt keep going shooting a 75 in the afternoon giving him a 142 total and second place in the individual event behind Shane Winstone from Gloucestershire who was five over with 5 to play and managed to get two birdies an eagle and par to finish level on 71 a very fine display of golf and taking the title on a total of 140.

Result: Dorset 4 - Sussex 8
Match report: We were fortunate in having a lovely dry day with a light wind. The foursomes were very disappointing. Mike and Dan could not get it together, nor could Jon and David at the back. However we were extremely unlucky to go one down with Matt and Jon Welch, and the Came Down partnership had been 2 up only to fall at the last fences. After another splendid meal and with some determination the team set off to make amends in the singles. Mike lost to an in-form Oli Turnhill who was 5 under after 10 holes! Matt struggled hard to go only 2 down. Dan crashed heavily and Lloyd succumbed to another in-form player. But four great scraps resulted in wins with the two Jons having to fight hard all the way and Rowan edging out another hot player. David cruised to a good 4&3 victory. Though losing 8:4 overall some consolation was evident in the excellent afternoon?s effort.

Result: Dorset 6 - Hampshire 6
Match report: We were fortunate in having a lovely dry day with a light wind. The morning was a great and pleasant surprise resulting in a 3:1 win. The singles proved the depth of talent of the Hampshire team many of whom were English Amateur players or balloted ?out entrants. Matt did well to gain a really good win. Overall some pleasant surprises and a disappointment or two. We gained a half against a strong county. It should have been a small win.

Result: Dorset 3 - Kent 7
Match report: On a cloudy and overcast Sunday morning the first Colts match of the year got under way. The foursomes saw some erratic play from both sides making matches tight, but sadly we were on the wrong side as the results panned out, the best performance came from Matt Pryke and Jon Putman who were 4 down coming down the twelth and secured a a half on the eighteenth a great fight back. Kent showed great class in the singles securing the first three games with some great play. Matt Pryke and Jon Putman again starred in the afternoon both securing good wins, Matt Hector fought very hard and secured a half on the eighteenth. Overall a disappointing result but there is room for improvement as we look forward to hosting Hampshire on the 29 July at Dudsbury GC.
