Seniors’ Captain’s Report re match v Hampshire.

Shanklin & Sandown, IOW.  Thursday 9th August 2012.

Unfortunately three of our top players were in Wales for the British Seniors and three others were unavailable for various reasons.  Being a small County we cannot sustain that sort of loss as well as Hampshire can so we were definitely not at full strength.  Having to travel to the other side of the Island meant everybody getting up very early to be at Lymington by 8.00am for the ferry, in some cases we are talking before 5.00 am, but happily the weather got better and better so we played in very hot sunny conditions.

The course was in very good condition but with several blind drives and also blind shots into the greens the fact that Hampshire had had a practise round but we had not had a considerable effect on the final result.  Afterwards all of our team seemed to have really enjoyed playing there and we finished with a very sociable meal with the Hampshire team where I handed over the Hampshire Hog trophy which we have held for a couple of years.  Never mind as I told Mike Heritage, their Captain, we will have it back next year!

Happily we managed to catch an earlier ferry than expected reaching home at a more respectable hour.
