This was a very disappointing start to our South East League campaign. It is true that we were playing last year’s champions but a very even contest on the 11th tee swung heavily in favour of Sussex on the back nine with our first point not coming until match seven. Graham Taylor on his own course was too good for his opponent and Colin Short was under par when he won. Nigel Stubbs’ 100% winning record fell when his opponent made a two at the 18th. Knighton Heath was in beautiful condition with good firm greens but they adjusted more quickly to the fact that with the very warm weather the ball was suddenly flying much further particularly affecting the shots into the greens.
Afterwards both teams enjoyed a delicious meal and convivial company.
