Dorset U14 v Devon U14

Ashley Wood Golf Club

18th August 2023

After a long wait the Dorset under 14’s got back out in the South West Jack Roberts League, playing Devon at a very green and lush Ashley Wood Golf Club. The wind was up and was going to make the day very testing indeed.

Reece Higgins and Ryan Murphy got the morning foursomes underway and quickly moved into a healthy lead. Unfortunately, our other pairings found the conditions tough and fell behind early on. Reece and Ryan would hang on for a 3&1 win against a very strong Devon pairing. Hugh Sanford playing in his first ever match performed well with Alex Harrison and narrowly lost on the last. Eventually Devon took the foursomes 3-1.

The afternoon singles got underway with Reece leading the team out. The front 9 did not go particularly well for a number of our boys who looked a little intimidated by Devon’s lower handicaps. However, the lads rallied well and a number of them pulled their matches back. If not for Devon holing three long putts on the last green the result could have gone our way. It was a shame to eventually lose the match 7.5 – 4.5 but there were a number of positives to take including Finlay Harvey and Zach Jelley producing fine victories.

Not long now until we take on Cornwall at Weymouth next Tuesday.
