Playing Hampshire is always tricky but this year our inexperienced team went into this match with a combined handicap 43 shots higher than our opponents! With this in mind the boys were reminded before they teed off about the importance of not handing holes to your opponents but making them win them. There were far too many unforced errors against Wiltshire, particularly on the greens. Well the boys responded well and were up in most foursomes matches early on. In the end some fine performances brought us out all square after the morning play.
You could see that although outclassed on paper the boys knew there was not as much between the sides as handicaps would suggest. A number of matches were going our way in the opening singles exchanges. In the end our openers did very well taking the 2 ½ points from the first 3. Unfortunately the middle order fell away in the end and there were a few rather large beatings for the boys to take. Oliver Coward however making his debut came good in the last match and won on the 18th in front of quite a few onlookers!
Very pleased with the lads this time, they took on the challenge well and looked more confident than they did against Wiltshire. Well done.
