The match was played in glorious weather on a first class course. It was in good condition but prior knowledge was a benefit on some holes. It is probably no coincidence that one and a half of our points came from the two people that had travelled up before the match and played a practice round.
Dave Barton had another fine match achieving a half in the top match. He played against Keith Waters who had a spell on the professional tour and more recently a top ten finish in the English Amateur Championship.
John Smith had five birdies in his 3/2 victory over Peter Harrison in what was our best result of the day and Graham Taylor won his match on the 18th.
Surrey are a strong team and playing them at home was always going to be a tough objective. However, the scale of our defeat was disappointing. Our next match is against Hampshire at The Dorset G & CC on July 7th.
