Dorset went to Kings Hill Golf Club in Kent after an excellent win against Surrey a few weeks before. Due to unavailability we were unable to field the same Team but this gave the opportunity to two Juniors to make their First Team debuts. Brad Cox (17) and Adam Harris (16) were paired together in the third foursomes of the morning. They seized their opportunity and played some great golf, Adam hitting a lovely iron shot into 10 feet at the Par 3 17th hole to secure a 2&1 victory. Our first win of the morning came courtesy of Tom Robson and Andy Rideout, winning easily 6&4 in the second game. Best match of the morning saw Harry Mitchell and Giles Legg in the top match 8 under par when winning 3&2. Ben Pritchard and Andy Robson lost 4&3 in the back game.

With Dorset 3 – 1 up at lunch spirits were high and another victory looked on the cards. The big hitting duo of Ben Pritchard and Andy Rideout led us off in the afternoon and both of their matches went down the last. Ben narrowly missing his birdie putt to lose 1 down and Andy bogeying the last for a half. Unfortunately this proved pivotal. Andy Robson and Harry Mitchell both were in control of their matches but the two Juniors and the Captain were struggling in their games. Tom Robson looked tired after his efforts in reaching the quarterfinals of the English amateur that week and succumbed eventually to his opponent.

This meant we came up 1 point short of victory and half a point away from probably a deserved half match.

A great effort but as we know, golf is a game of fine margins. You have to take your opportunities when they present themselves.

We look forward to signing off in style when we take on Sussex at Remedy Oak on the 6th September. Please come along and support your County Team.
