Dorset County

A fantastic performance from the Dorset Team ended with a very well deserved 8.5 – 3.5 win at Dudsbury Golf Club this Sunday.

Comfortable wins for Tom Robson playing with Andy Rideout and Jack Singh-Brar playing with Andy Robson in the foursomes gave us the base we were looking for, but a fighting half point from Harry Mitchell and Dominic Knight secured an important lead going into the singles.

With the wind getting quite strong in the afternoon we started well, with seven of the Team up or level through the first 5 holes. Things were looking very good for a positive result. Unfortunately we didn’t seem to be able to keep our lead over the next four holes. Surrey had pulled things back and had edged into a slight lead. However the strong Back 9 at Dudsbury suited us and we came charging back.

Andy Rideout secured our first point at number 1, and Tom Robson soon followed with his point leaving us only 2 points from victory. Tom Leech was in full control of his singles so it was just a matter of who would get us the last point necessary for victory. Dominic Knight won his last two holes to win 1 up and Andy Robson won the last for a 2 hole win. With Tom Leech winning simultaneously this was more than enough to win the match against a strong Surrey Team. The icing was put on the cake when Jack Singh-Brar birdied the last to win stretching the winning margin to 5 points.

After a difficult South West Week this was very much the response Dorset needed. We can now look forward to our last two South East League Matches with confidence.
