Once again the Under 14’s did Dorset proud by taking the scalp of last year’s league winners Devon, this meant that Dorset themselves became 2014 league champions!
The day could not have got off to a better start with our first 2 foursomes pairings moving ahead in their matches early on. Seville & Brooke closed their match out 4&2 while a great up and down from the greenside bunker saw Randall & Elwick win their game. Two of the finest shots of the day however came from Tom Kollberg into the last two greens meaning Billy Hathway & he came from 2 down 2 to play to get a very important half.
Despite the foursomes score the singles was always going to be hard as Devon had brought a very good side with them. All matches remained close for the whole afternoon and for a while gaining the 2 ½ points required for victory was looking doubtful. With Sam Brooke winning and Tom Kollberg well up we were looking for ½ a point more but all games were down. Billy Hathway won his last two holes to get an unlikely half and with Tom K still playing Tom Seville holed the vital put on the 18th after winning his last 3 holes! Tom K didn’t let anybody down and won his match on 17th meaning that in the end an impressive 3 points was the margin. A fantastic finish to an amazing year!
It’s been a pleasure working with the lads this season; they’ve improved beyond all recognition. I’m very proud of all of them.
