The result was a disappointment after the previous win against Sussex. Both teams were removed of some of their best players due to a date clash with the Welsh Championship. The match went quickly in Surreys favour with Dorset only managing one point from the first 5 matches. We were well behind in three of these with Dave Barton coming back from 6 down and Campbell getting 4 down back to all square before this caused his opponent to rush to the finish. Campbells opponent has just returned to the amateur ranks after 17 years on the full professional circuit. The tail had to produce a rearguard action. The results improved but not sufficiently to even get to a halved match. Surrey ran out with a comfortable victory 7 to 3.
We have 2 weeks to prepare ourselves for the next match with Hampshire at Hayling Island where we hope to produce a better result.
Our thanks must be recorded to Parkstone for producing there course in such excellent condition. All of the players appreciated the quality with the Surrey players saying it was the best condition course they had played in 2014. We must also record our thanks to the Parkstone Captain who acted as starter and their Secretary who welcomed each player to the tee.
