The match was subjected to the imfamous Lyme Regis fog. The day was forecast to have light rain for a short spell at 1.00pm this was exactly correct but only lasted about 15 minutes. The air was heavy with moisture but no fog. The first match had completed 11 holes when the sky stared to lower and by the time the first match was on the 14th tee it was almost unpayable. The club organiser found me on the 12th tee where visibility had dropped to about 40yd.The decision was taken to suspend play for up to 1 hour and then review. The fog was still too thick to restart the match so in accordance with the rules a halved match was agreed. This is very unfortunate as Dorset were up in 7 matches level in one and only down in 2. I am certain that the weather robbed us of our first , and probably a very convincing victory. This was conceeded by the Hampshire captain in his speech.
