Despite the fears of earlier in the year the venue played OK. The greens were slow and we agreed on winter rules as the fairways had been slit as part of their winter programme. We were 4 of our top 5 players short so were always going to struggle against a team going to the National Finals in 6 weeks’ time. We were well beaten 71/2 to 21/2 with 2 wins coming from late replacement Lyme Regis men who had played the course twice in inter club matches during the year. This emphasises the need for practice rounds.
