The foursomes started well with Harry Mitchell and Billy-Joe Bugden playing top against Dan Byrne and Danny Jones. It was close all the way and the match was all square on the final hole. Both tee shots went left and found the 18th fairway. The Kent pair went first and played a good shot 20 feet pin high. Up stepped Harry who played a great wedge shot inside 10 feet. When Kent missed their birdie try Billy-Joe calmly rolled in his birdie putt to win the match 1 up.
Match two saw the return of Ben Welch who partnered Tom Atkins. They were always in control winning 4 & 3.
The third patch saw Ben Pritchard make his county first team debut teaming up with Aaron Crabb. Unfortunately they struggled to find their best game losing 5&4.
Tom Robson was paired up with his brother Andy, also making his first team league debut. They were also in fine form winning 5&4.

So at lunchtime Dorset took a 3-1 lead.

Into the singles Harry Mitchell went out top match and showed his fine form of late, winning 3&2. In the second match Aaron Crabb ran into some fine golf played by Michael Lawrence who beat him 5&3.
The third game was a great tussle with Ben Welch making a birdie on the 15th to go 2 up only to see his opponent birdie the 16th to go back to one. Ben remained 1 up on the last but unfortunately his par putt slipped past so the match was halved.
Billy-Joe also played all 18 holes again and unfortunately lost the 18th to lose 1 down.

The match was getting tight with the Kent fightback well underway. Andy Robson had no answer for a great putting display from Josh Bristow, losing 6&5 and it was the same story for Ben Pritchard, losing 5&4.
We then needed the last 2 matches to snatch victory, Tom Atkins was all square on the 16th tee only to see his opponent birdie 16 and 17 to beat him 2&1.
County champion Tom Robson also went down the 18th but could not salvage any points, losing 1 down.

The finals result was 7.5 to Kent and 4.5 to Dorset and my congratulations go to them for a great afternoons golf, overturning their morning deficit.

My thanks for Ian Hulse for all of the arrangements and to Broadstone Golf Club for kindly hosting us this weekend.

Thank you to my Vice Captain Giles Legg for his efforts and Dan Frost for his player preparations in the practice round and on the morning before the match which certainly paid off on Sunday morning.
I appreciate our supporters attending again being Colin Legg, Rob Jones, Mr and Mrs Robson and Mr Mitchell.

On to the final match of the 2014 season against Sussex at Ham Manor.

David Cook
Dorset County Captain.
