Ashley Wood Academy Coach, Jon Meaden s tarted playing golf age 14, & soon developed his golf from a 28 handicap to a low single digit handicap by 18. During this time he represented the Ashley Wood Golf Club at various levels befor turnin professional, aged 20, under the PGA training programme.
In the last 8 years as a professional Jon has been playing tournaments in the West Region Professional Golf Association and various mini tour events. Jon combines playing in these regional events with his love of coaching golfers of all levels.
In May 2021 the Junior Academy was re-established with the assistance of Junior Organiser, Claire Bird.
Starting with just 3 juniors the academy soon grew to a regular group of approximately 20 young players attending Saturday sessions with over 40 juniors in the academy.
The main focus for The Ashley Wood Junior Academy is to keep golf fun, interactive and exciting.
Sessions are based around key learning points followed up by learning games and activities, so the junior golfers can learn new skills and enjoy the experience of learning.
The sessions are run every Saturday and there are also coaching courses available during school holiday periods.
Coaching sessions will cover
- Putting
- Chipping/Pitching
- Bunkers
- Funky shots
- Full swings
- On course play/rules
There are a variety of abilities & ages in our academy with several progressing into the Dorset County pathway.
Ashley Wood Junior Academy has developed a junior golf chart which is updated at the end of the month for juniors to see what they have accomplished and what they can in accomplish in the future.
The aim is to help junior golfers develop golf skills but also life skills to use in the future.
