With stunning view green fairways and a course in excellent condition the scene was set at Sherborne Golf Club for this year’s Inter-Club Mixed Championship. The day was cloudy but the sun kept popping through now and again but there was no rain and it was pleasantly warm.
The scratch trophy was well contested Emma Higgins who with brother Tom won last year was back this year with younger brother James hoping to retain the trophy for Highcliffe and they did well coming home in 79, perhaps the fifth was their undoing when they had a seven. Local pair Matthew Sandy and Caroline Beaumont could only manage 8. Carly Cummins and Vince Joyce from Parkstone held the club house lead with 78 which was matched by previous champions Ashley Beckett and Kyra Horlock from Broadstone and it went to the Parkstone pair on count back winning on the best back three by one shot. So congratulations to Carly and Vince on becoming the 2012 Mixed Champions.

The Handicap section was well supported and there were some differences in the scoring but overall everyone enjoyed themselves. The early leaders were Parkstone’s Rosemary Emby & Mark Huxford on 32 points one better than Diane Freda & Eddie Meggs Ferndown, Laura and Mark Dodington Weymouth and Michael & Tries Rideout Yeovil all on 31 points. Dudsbury pair Keith & Pauline Webb held the lead on 33 for a very short time but then the late pairing from Ashley Wood Val Carder & Steve Sanger came in with 35 points as did their playing partners Chris & Debbie Knight from Knighton Heath and they had one point more on the back nine to take this year’s Handicap Championship.
