Dorset v Gloucestershire
So the 2021 Championship got under way with the team taking on Gloucestershire. Our County Champion Tom Kollberg led the way and didn’t disappoint with a fine win 6&4 over Tom Workman Adan was next and continued the run with a 3&2 win over Jake Phillips. Tom Lawrence was out against the Gloucester County Champion Nick Day but Tom held his own and his nerve to win 1up. Oscar Hein played some fine golf and also some different golf but eventually came out on top 1 up. Sam Atkins played very well with a fine win 4&3 which could have been more albeit for a couple of 3 putts. Dave Norton and Tom Leech found it tough going with both losing 6&4 & 4&3 respectively. Matt sandy had a ding dong match and unfortunately had to settle for a half when Josh sunk a good putt on the last. So at the half way stage we are 5.5 to 2.5 up.
The foursomes got under way with us just needing one win and a half match to secure an opening victory. Sadly it appeared the morning result gave Gloucestershire the spur they needed coming out all guns blazing taking all four of the foursome games to give them victory overall. So the SW format proves it self once more! We now look forward to our next match against Somerset

Well another great morning for the younger members and we make the turn 5-3 up on our rivals Somerset. Tom Kollberg was again in fine form beating Somerset’s seasoned campaigner Phil white 2&1. Adan had a cracking 4&3 win with the Captain Andy following the winning ways with a 3&2 win over youngster Dylan Xanh. Oscar had a hard morning losing out to his opponent 4&3. Sam was once again in sparkling form beating Andrew Ferris 3&1 with the injured Dave Norton on the bag. Very pleased to see out Vice-Captain getting off the mark with a very good 3&2 victory over Justin Lane. Robbie found it really tough going against Craig Adams but had a stunning up and down on the twelfth before being on the wrong end of a 6&5 loss. Tom brought up the rear and struggled to keep pace with Tom Trowbridge losing 4&3. So a very good mornings work by the team and here’s hoping for a sweeter return in the afternoon than yesterday.
The Captain shuffled the pack in the afternoon with Tom and Adan leading the way. This was a very good match to watch with it coming down to the last and Somerset taking it by one. Andy with Sam were the next pair playing Tom Trowbridge and Jack Palmer in a tight match and coming out on top by two holes. Andy Robson and Robbie Mabb then came home winning on the last by one. They were closely followed by Tom and Matt also taking all the way to win by one. So after yesterday’s disappointment today was time to celebrate our first win of the week taking the match 8-4. Tomorrow is the SW stroke play and EG County Qualifier so we wish the six all the best.

A great performance by all in the Stroke play Championship with A great effort from Matt Sandy with a 4 under first round and a 2 over second to finish in fourth position overall, Our congratulations to Gloucestershire on winning the team event to Qualify for the English finals, Dorset finished fourth.
The team playing in the EG Qualifier: Matt Sandy, Tom Kollberg, Tom Leech, Robbie Mabb, Sam Atkins & Adan Yates.
Today we were out against Cornwall, always a hard match especially as the Cornish team had still to get off the mark. All the matches were tight affairs and it looked as if it was going to go our way but in the end it was Cornwall who came out on top winning 5 of the singles with Adan, Andy and Tom L gaining the points for us. So we need 3 wins in the afternoon Foursomes and again at one stage looked on after all had gone through the turn. Tom Leech and Adan took the first match with Andy and Sam taking the second. Andrew and Robbie lost 3&2 so it was down to our Sherborne pair who had a very tight match and sadly for us were on the wrong side by one hole. So Cornwall got off the mark and we now have to pick our selves up to take on Devon tomorrow.
The other matches Gloucestershire v Wiltshire & Somerset v Devon
Out against a very competent Devon side who took control of the majority of the games in the early part of the match. Tom Kollberg fought hard but lost 4&2 and Adan lost 4&3. Andy was one who appeared to be in control and when he went 3 up with 5 to play we thought we may get out first point until the Devon player made his move and when Andys putt on the last just ran past it was a halved match. Oscar and Sam both lost their matches 3&2. Tom Lawrence lost on the last and with Andrew getting beat 4&3 so it was looking like we may have nothing to play for in the afternoon foursomes. Never fear our seasoned member Tom came down the last all square and when is opponent failed to get up and down from the side of the green Tom had a three and a half footer to win the match and give the team a tunnel of light for this afternoons foursome games.
Robbie & Oscar were the only pair to bring home any points in the afternoon as Devon continued with their form out playing us. Good luck to them tomorrow when they play Gloucestershire in what is the Match Play decider.

So the final day arrives and we face Wiltshire. With yesterday’s results going against us we need to win to be sure of avoiding the dreaded wooden spoon! Matt Sandy out in front fought hard to get a halved game, the skipper lost to Joe Retford 5&3 with Oscar losing to Jonathan Grace 7&6. Tom Kollberg steadied the ship getting another half point but then Robbie was then beaten 5&4.And with Tom Leech losing 7&5 we were struggling Tom Lawrence put a full point on the board beating Ben Loughrey by one and with Andy Robson battling extra hard and managing to get a halve we were 5.5 to 2.5 down at lunch. So we need to gain 3 wins in the foursomes to avoid another defeat. Robbie and Oscar made up for the morning recording a fine 5&3 win, sadly we found ourselves on the wrong side in the other three matches hence we lost 10-4 so now we were looking to Cornwall to beeat Somerset and when they won 7-1 in the morning we had hope. Credit to Somerset who won three of the foursomes and halved the other giving them the Wooden Spoon on home soil.
