The Seniors went to Tiverton in good spirits and looking for another chance to go back to the English County Finals after last years’ experience at the finals.
They certainly started very well and with some great scoring from all six which saw Gary Earl ahead on 71 and John Pounder in second on 72 we were 6 shots clear of the home favourites Devon.
The next day was different story with Devon digging deep to claw back those 6 shots which they did. The Dorset team held their own and a great 70 from Phil Bill catapulted him to the top of the leader board and we once more had the SW Individual Champion. . This was age a great achievement from Phil in his first outing in the SW Seniors many congratulations to him.
That 70 also saw us tied with Devon with teams on a final total of 740 So out came the rules and it was down to the aggregated scores of the sixth players in each round, Devon had dropped two 79's for a total of 158 whilst we dropped a 76 and 80 for a total of 156 giving us a two shot lead and allowing Dorset to progress to this year's English County Finals at Effingham in October. A truly super team effort and one the Captain must be proud of.
