At Wareham yesterday Kai from Christchurch had 41 points 6 clear of Sam Brown Weymouth to claim the Cyril Nash. The score assisted Christ Church the team Cup from second placed Weymouth. Christchurch will now go forward to the Junior Champion Club Championship at Woodhall Spa.
The 2019 Junior League/Knockout competition came to a conclusion on a glourious day at Bulbury Woods GC on Friday 30 August with Yeovil playing Sherborne in the first semi-final and Parkstone v Dudsbury B.
In this local derby Sherborne came out on top winning by 4 games to 2 in what was a very hard fought match with some fine golf by the youngsters of both sides.
The other match saw Parkstone taking on the young guns from Dudsbury who were getting a bucket full of shots. Jack Hancock won the last three holes against Tom Bastow to get a halve point. Gus Moxon had to give 21 shots and did so well to gain a halve point. Wins by Jenson, Toby and Sacha ensured that Parkstone made the final this year.
The final got under way and it was always going to be a real battle for both sides. The top match went all the way with Tom just coming out on top by one. The next three matches all went to Sherborne. Toby then pulled one back for Parkstone and the all lady match at the end finally went to Sacha making the score all square at 3 all.
So it was then down to the top pairing to play off and poor Ollie hit a good drive but found his ball perched at the top of the ditch making for a very difficult second. Tom found the bunker off the tee but played a good second just coming up short of the green. Ollie played out best he could but then had to chip out from the trees for three, he then played a fine chip to the green leaving himself a 15 footer for 5. Nerves were getting to both players and Tom's chip came up short. Ollie then missed his putt and Tom left his short for a four but made no mistake with the next to take the first playoff hole and the win for the Parkstone Team who take the Bill Kennedy League/Knockout Shield.
