This year’s Boys Championship got under way at Broadstone on another very hot and humid day and was going to prove a fine test for the few youngsters who took part. The field of 16 was to say the least disappointing! Early scores in were high with the exception of Broadstones Alex Johnston who had a gross 75 Weymouth’s Sam Trott had a fine 73 to hold the clubhouse lead with Sherborne's Ollie Griffiths coming home in 74 to take second spot after the morning round.

So having been duly fed and watered they returned to the course for the second round and first out Harvey Randall was determined to make amends for his poor 79 in the morning. He started with a birdie 4 at the first but then dropped a shot at the next but that was his last as he went on to have some six birdies and 10 pars to have a stunning 64 total for a 143 3 over total and the clubhouse lead. Weymouth's Mannie Wellman had a fine 73 with Sam Atkin bettering his morning round with a 74. Sam Trott could only manage second spot as he slipped back with a 75 for a 148 total leaving Mannie in third on 150 pipping Sherborne's Ollie Griffiths on count back. That said Ollie pipped Mannie in the handicap competition with a fine 134 total some two better than Mannie who finished on 136.
The day though belonged to Harvey Randall who was crowned the 2018 County Boys Champion.
