So with the sun shining the 2018 Final got under way between David Cook Parkstone and Luke Hirst Dudsbury with Referee Brian Clark Lyme Regis. David took the lead early on and never really lost control from there on in. Luke managed to get back all square on the third but by the turn David was back to one up. With a fine birdie two on the eleventh he extended his lead to two. Luke played a scrappy fourteenth to go three down but then David played his worst golf on the next to allow Luke back to two down after which they parred in and David became the 2018 Champion on the seventeenth winning 2&1. Well don both players and in David we have a very worthy Champion. |

David Cook V Ben Pritchard, referee Brian Clark. Wow this was a nip and tuck semi with Ben keeping david at bay and not letting him get away. David was one up at the turn and went 2 up on thirteen. Ben got it back to one on the next and then took the initiative on the seventeenth to get back all square but a pulled tee shot saw him Out of Bounds on the last and even though he stuck his next from the tee some eight foot past the hole David made par to win the match. |

Luke Hirst v Matt Sandy Referee Ian Hulse: What a great match that went all the way and some more. Luke always seemed in control and by the seventh was two up, Matt birdied the next to get it back to one at the turn. Luke took the tenth but then matt hit back taking twelve and thirteen to pull it back to all square. Luke then took the next two holes with fine birdies to get back to two up . Matt won sixteen and they halved the seventeenth so down to the last and Matt drove the green making a fine three to square the match. They halved the first and when Matt found the deep rough on the next with both his first and second balls Luke only had to par to make the final. |

| Giles Legg v v Ben Pritchard: Although through seven holes Giles looked to be comfortable Ben upped his game to take the match 4&2. |

Stroke Play Qualifier - Garrett Salver.
The 2018 County Championship got under way at Lyme with the course in fine condition and also showing off its new bunkers. The weather was lovely and it was all set for some good scoring which proved to be the case. Matt Sandy had the best score of the morning with a course equalling 66 two ahead of Didsbury’s Luke Hirst on 68 with Parkstone’s David Cook one behind him on 69. After the morning round we had eight players on par or better.
The afternoon once more saw some good scoring and leading the way was Ferndown’s Harry Mitchell with 68 equalled by David Cook. Luke Hirst had a fine 69 as did Sam Atkins and Andrew Robson. The morning leader Matt could only manage a level par 71 which then meant we had three players tied on 137 with David Cook pipping Luke Hirst on Countback with Matt having to settle for third place.

Lyme Regis 125 Years Celebrations
As part of the Championship weekend the members took part in a competition on the Sunday playing the course as set for the Championship Final the results were:
Div 1 Winner: Roger Turner 38 points Runner Up: Mark Lewis 37 points.
Div 2 Winner: Terry Peadon 36 points Runner Up: Les Bounds 36 points.

Lastly on behalf of the Dorset Golf Union a sincere thank you to the Lyme Regis Management Committee, Members and staff for allowing us the use the course for the 2018 Amateur Championship. The course was presented by the staff in excellent condition and proved a good test of golf for all players concerned, the bar and catering staff kept everyone fed and watered, the committee, club members and staff have been a delight making all the players and officials very welcome. Thank you.
