The 2017 South West Boys Championships was played on home soil at Came Down GC at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club, a course notorious for its ups and downs.
The team was Adam Harris, Sam Atkins, Sam Brooke, Jacob Hunter, Morgan Taylor and Mark Rankin
Main event of the season, the SW Boys was held at Came Down in early July. We had a good squad out, although depleted by injury of a key player and of course Tom Plumb transferring to Somerset. The venue was in excellent condition and Came Down looked after everybody very well. The pre event training had gone well, including the new friendly against Cornwall on the Monday before the main SW event, which we had won. Unfortunately, when it came to the main event, we finished third, which all the squad were disappointed with. Somerset won the team event with last year’s Champions Wiltshire in 2nd place. Overall the gap was 16 shots which is the same as last year and in reality is not a bad performance as our team this year was overall younger than last year, with half the team and most of the squad still having a further year in Junior golf.
