The 2016 Junior Knockout competition came to a conclusion at Ferndown Forest GC on Friday 26 August with Knighton Heath playing Broadstone A in the first semi-final and Weymouth taking on Broadstone B in the other. The weather was fine and the course was in very good condition so there were no excuses and some great match play golf was forth coming from the players as they fought it out to see who would prevail to the final. Both matches were tight affairs and both looked like they may well need to go to extra holes. The first was decided when Knight Heath’s Kieran Laird managed to secure a halve down the eighteenth which was the half a point they needed to go on to the final. Bailey Birch did the same down the last matching Jack Pallister and managing to get a halved match to secure the half a point which took the Broadstone A team into the final.
The final got under way and to be fair this match swung completely in favour of the Knighton side who with the shots made Broadstone work very hard. Cameron Laird played some fine golf all day and was focused taking the scalp of Broadstone’s Thomas Kollberg 5&4. Harvey Randall although giving lots of shots worked hard and evened things up beating Jordan white 2&1. John Ahern gave Rhys Harrison our youngest Category One player a sound beating winning 5&4. Young Andy Su put another point on the board but had to work hard even with the shots against James Bishop winning 2&1 Keiran Laird who is more into cricket proved he could also play some fine golf much to Chloe’s cost with a fine 5&4 victory to secure the match and shield for Knighton Heath. Baily Birch won 3&2 at the end to make it more respectable score line. Knighton Heath were crowned the 2016 Knockout Champions.
