The team Championship was won by Devon. Dorset came fourth out of the six counties.
The scores against Parkstone’s SSS of 72 were as follows although the CSS for the two days was higher at 74 and 73.
Devon +64
Gloucestershire +73
Wiltshire +83
Dorset +88
Cornwall +104
Somerset +107
The course was in fine condition and the green-keeping staff had done a fine job of restoring the course following the torrential downpour of two weeks earlier. 38mm of rain had descended in 15 minutes!
In each round, the best 5 scores of the six-man team are counted and Dorset’s scores were as follows.
Dave Barton 76 + 76
Terry Falck 79 + 78
Gary Peddie 80 + 82
Rhys Francis 81 + 81
John Smith 81 + DQ
John Hayes 82 + 84
Last year Mike Chapman won the individual trophy but damage to his rotator cuff muscle prevented him from defending his title. This year it was won by Richard Wood with rounds of 73 and 76. Close behind and in third place was our own David Barton. Congratulations to him and also Graham Taylor who finished in eleventh spot with 77 + 79. Terry Falck had qualified for the seniors team only two weeks earlier and we look forward to further contributions from him.
The team result was disappointing. We should have done better with home advantage. We had prepared properly with practice rounds and the professional had supplied us with advice and notes on how to play the course. In the event, we were on average 4 shots per man worse than the winners and that simply wasn’t good enough.
