The Category III & IV Championships were played at a sun drenched Weymouth GC with just a slight breeze to test for the players taking part but the course was in superb condition with true and fast running greens which were going to test the field.
Local Michael Legg was the early leader with a net 74 which was then bettered by one by Canford Magna’s Larry Austin. Jerry Cooke had a one over 71 to sit at the top of the leader board and it seemed he would hold on to the Championship but Kenny Small from Crane Valley had the best round of the day coming home with a net 69 to take the category III Championship.
Champion: Kenny Small Crane Valley GC
Runner Up: Jerry Cooke DG&CC
Third: Larry Austin Canford Magna GC
The Category IV Championship was not too well represented with several players failing to turn up just leaving 10 to compete for the Championship. The players found it tough going and scoring was high. Adrian Mitchell Yeovil held the lead on 81 for most of the time and he was pipped by one shot by the last player in which was Mark Dunning from Wareham who was stunningly surprised to be named as the 2015 Category IV Champion.
Congratulations go to:
Champion: Mark Dunning Wareham GC
Runner Up: Adrian Mitchell Yeovil GC
Third: Rod Plowman Sherborne GC
Our thanks to Weymouth GC for hosting the event.
