With the sun shining we were back at Wareham for this year’s Cyril Nash memorial event which now incorporates the English Junior Champion Club qualifier. We had the best field of young guns for many years with a start sheet of 59 so it was going to be an interesting and long day. There was some excellent golf to watch and it never ceases to amaze how well these youngsters can hit the ball. The early scores in indicated that given the breeze that was blowing scoring was proving difficult with the early leaders coming home with 34 points John Ahearn playing for Parkston broke that mould with a fine 36 points bettered shortly afterwards by Broadstone’s Rhys Harrison with 37 points. The ever consistent Sam Trott from Weymouth had 39 points but the putter was going to Parkstone’s Andrew Murray who had a mighty impressive 42 points. As I said let’s hope this is a good omen for the other A Murray!
First Place: Andrew Murray Parkstone 42 points
Second Place: Sam Trott Weymouth GC 39 points
Third Place: Rhys Harrison Broadstone GC 37 points

So which team would be going to Frilford Heath to play in this year’s EG Champion Junior Club? Early leaders were DG&CC on 90 but they knew that was not enough and then it was Ferndown B on 99 points. Parkstone A held the lead next on 103 points but the individual score of Andrew Murray of 42 put his team Parkstone C in a very strong position along with a 35 from Tomas Saville and 34 from Jenson Bull put them on 111 points and the team title.
