The County Stroke Play Championship got under way at The Ashley Wood Golf Club and with a rain forecast it was fingers crossed to ensure we got the 36 holes in during the day. With the first seven groups out the heavens opened and play was suspended for 45 minutes whilst the greens were cleared once the deluge had abated. Play resumed and within an hour the sun was shining and the day turned out to be good so the competition was completed in full thankfully.
Given the morning conditions the scoring was good Matt Sandy Sherborne was one over along with George Seed Lyme Regis and Andy Rideout Broadstone. Level was two young guns George Carroll and Adam Harris but John Milne despite a bogy four at the last held the first round lead with a fine one under par 69.
George Carroll held the lead handicap wise in the chase for the Weymouth jubilee Cup with a net 66.

The afternoon round belonged to matt sandy from Sherborne with a fine 3 under par 67 giving him a 138 total and with john Milne the morning leader struggling the title was Matt’s with Stuart Wight second on 140 and Andy Rideout from Broadstone took third place with a fine 141 total.
With George Carroll finding the going tough in the afternoon the handicap trophy went to Ashley Wood’s Dominic Dunstan who won on count back from Matt Sandy and Tomas Seville Parkstone.
