So with the move to bring the English Junior Champion Club qualifier into the Cyril Nash we have moved the event forward to early July and so thanks to Wareham we are playing on the first Sunday in July on a very pleasant day for golf and a field of some 48 players from around the County. There was some excellent golf to watch it never ceases to amaze how well our youngsters can hit the ball. . There was some fine scoring Joe Taylor from DG&CC led for a while on 37 points which was equalled by Tomas Seville Parkstone Georgina Wrixon Ashley wood and Sam Trott Weymouth. Then 38 took the lead with Alex Fernandez from Parkstone and Harry Smith from Ashley Wood this was bettered by a point by Kalin Woodland Parkstone but the eventual winner was Ferndown’s Megan Thompson who had 41 points and played some very steady and impressive golf.

It was an interesting team event which went right down to the last group DG&CC were the early leaders with Parkstone ‘A’ sweating on their last player Drew who was not having the best of rounds Ferndown ‘A’ were also there but then in came the steady “eddies” of Ashley Wood Jon Meaden first with just 24 points but he was then followed by Dominic Dunstan on 34 and Harry Smith with a resounding 38 and finally when Georgina Wrixson came home with 37 points they were suddenly top of the tree on 109 points which was not caught and it is Ashley wood who will go forward to this year’s English Junior Champion Club finals at Woodhall Spa in August.

The Junior Committee wish to thank Wareham GC for hosting the event and all those who took part for their support to this event it is a great opportunity to allow club youngsters with a higher handicap to represent the club in a competitive competition. We will again be playing English Junior Champion Club qualifier at next year’s event which will be held at Wareham on the 5 July 2015.
