After heavy rain through the night the sun shone brightly up at Came Down for this year’s Adult / Junior Greensome Championship. The early leaders were home pairing Charles Foster and Sam Roles on 35 but that was sure to be bettered and it was not long when previous winners Sam and Andy Trott came in with 36 then another Weymouth pair of Alan and Simon Rose went one better with 37. Sherborne brother Matthew and Stephen sandy set the pace with a fine 40 points helped along with 5 birdies in the last seven holes great play. Ashley Wood pair of roger palmer and Dominic Dunstan came close on 39 as did there club mates Harry smith and Steve Wareham who pushed them into fourth place on count back. Second place went to father and son pairing from Bulbury Woods Nick and Ben Olding who also had 39 points but took second slot with the best back nine. So the Bunny Cotton trophy has been wrenched at last from Weymouth and goes to Matthew and Stephen Sandy from Sherborne.
The Sherborne Team consisting of Matthew & Stephen Sandy, Ben & Adrian Dew along with Alex & Adam Elwick sat at the top of the team leader board with 75 points one clear of Ferndown’s Richard & Jordan White and Kevin Holmes & Oliver Pryce who were on 74 and waited for their last pair of Ray and Jack Fairhall they came home with 38 points which was enough to tie on 75 and when the third score was taken into account Ferndown won the team Shield on that count back so a new name will go onto the team shield this year.
Congratulations to all the players for taking part this year and making the event such a success, I look forward to seeing more in next year’s event at Bulbury Woods on Thursday 06 August 2015.
