This year’s Championship at Highcliffe Castle was a glorious sunny if somewhat breezy day at a Highcliffe course presented in great condition and was going to be a stern test for those taking part. The under 12’s led the way playing a Stableford with our largest field in this age group so far with 15 youngsters teeing off. They all played some splendid golf and it is so good to see these youngsters who swing so freely and hit the ball so far. In the scratch competition the Broadstone star Rhys Harrison had a great 27 scratch points to take the title from Weymouth’s Sam Trott on 22, Parkstone’s Jenson Bull took the handicap title with a fantastic 46 points beating another Weymouth youngster Jacob Tidswell on 44
The under 13 championship was won by Thomas Kollberg with a gross 77 two better than his Under 14 team mate Alex Elwick on 79. Weymouth’s Oliver Coward took the handicap trophy with a fine net 62.
The under 14 Championship saw Parkstone’s sam Brooke win and keep his record going of taking each age group championship title. Sam has had a great year and is also the SW Under 14 Champion, he had a gross 69 to take the title by only one shot from club mate Kalin woodland who had a 70. This was Parkstone’s age group as Morgan Taylor also Parkstone took the handicap Championship with a net 60.
The Under 15 Championship saw Weymouth’s Mark Rankin shoot the best gross score of the day with a 657 to take the title by two from Yeovil’s Adam Harris. Rhys Card from Knighton took the handicap title with a fine 61 with Bridport’s Tom Hunt pipping Ben Dew from Sherborne on count back.
The Under 16 Scratch championship was won by the ever consistent Sean Dimmick who had a fine gross 69 to take the title by one from Ferndown’s Max Bale who just pipped Brad Cox from Broadstone on count back. The handicap title went to the unknown Ben Olding from Bulbury woods the first junior from the club to take a County honour, well done Ben and Bulbury. Parkstone’s Steffen Foley took the runner up slot, in what was a very keenly contested Age Group.
Our thanks go to Highcliffe Castle for hosting the event along with Club Captain Richard Gibbs who was there to present the prizes and welcome the players to Highcliffe, also thanks to the ever impressive starter in our President of Juniors Ian Clark, along with Referee Bill Kennedy who gave his time to ensure all the youngsters got round with no hick ups.
It still concerns me even with these numbers that some youngsters are missing out and not entering the Championship, it is a great days golf and allows all the young ones a chance to compete in a County event against their piers let’s hope we get more along next year as we visit Rushmore GC
