This year’s competition got under way with the sun shining and the forecast was to stay dry for both days and for once the weather men got it right. We started at Sherborne this year the course as always was in superb condition the golf did not disappoint on a course that had been superbly prepared with greens running fast and true. The field was blessed with some fine talent and we saw some fine golf as eight of the players went under par in the first round. Daniel Toogood from Mendip was 2 under with a fine 70 as was Alex wills from Harewood Downs and Jacob Tinsley East Devon. Dorset player Bill-Joe had a great 69 matched by Jake Storey Alnmouth. Kealsey March Minchinhampton had a stunning 66 but the best was a stunning 65 from England and Brokenhurst player Jack Singh Brar which matched his previous first round score two years ago. Jack will go forward with this score to the Telegraph and I am sure he will again do well in that competition. Two time runner up Rob Burlison Oxley was level. Scoring proved a little more difficult in the afternoon Rob came home in 69 as did Cameron Long Drayton Manor. Kelsey slipped back with a two over 74 but Jack maintained his lead with a fine 70 which included a double bogey at the last as his first found the out of bounds.

So we flipped the start sheet so the second day saw them going out in score order from the first for the final 36 holes and again the weather was superb as was the golf. Tom Atkins Parkstone did great with a fine 69 which was then bettered by one from Josh Hilleard Farrington. Alex Wills stayed in the hunt along with Ryan Cahill with fine 70’s Jake storey hit the best of the morning with a stunning 66 putting him on 7 under. The last group of Rob, Jack and Kelsey all played well with Rob coming home in 69 to keep the pressure on Jack who had a fine 67. The final round got under way and again the scoring proved to be very good with a total of nine players going under par. Tom Atkins made another fine 3 under 69 to take the Under 16 Champions slot with a fine 287 total two clear of Daniel Guy Churston who finished with a fine 68. Jake Storey was one over but 6 under for the competition taking third place four clear of the best placed Dorset Boy George Long of Parkstone who had a great afternoon round of 68.
