Category I & II Championship

The Category I & II Championships were played at Weymouth as our belated summer arrived and it was a warm down if somewhat breezy which would I am sure test the players.  With eleven players competing for the Category I Championship it was all to play for and Bob Nichol from Parkstone was the early pace setter with net 73 his was equalled by Ashley Harvey Broadstone who took the lead on count back.  It was Matt Sandy from Sherborne who won the day with a fine net 72 taking the category I Championship by one shot.  Surprising how the last three holes took their toll on most of the players but Matt navigated them better than most.

The Category II Championship was more keenly contested and it was nip and tuck right to the death, Parkstone’s Matt Gordon was leader for some time with a fine net 72 but the last group out were having the best of it and Simon Moule from Ferndown Forest equalled Matt with 72 but it fell short of his playing partner Rob Sims from Bulbury Woods who had a splendid net 71 to become the Category II Champion and also booked his place in the 2013 Gold Medal Competition at Woodhall Spa next year.
