The event comprised a practice day, a morning stroke play round for the individual and team stroke play championship, and the three inter-county matches to determine the Inter County Match Play Championship. Exeter G&CC is a undulating parkland style course with fairly small and hard fast greens. The practice day and the two days of the tournament golf were blessed by some fine sunny warm weather with cold starts
A lovely day and a light breeze and everyone arrived at the course in good time. After a warm-up the team played in handicap order with the following scores:
Harry Mann 72 Dominic Knight 72 Billy-Joe Bugden 74
Tom Parsons 74 George Long 76 Joe Lovery 77

The course par is 69 and the CSS for the day was 70 The team total was 445 putting us in third place one stroke ahead of Cornwall with somerset in Second place on 439 leaving our hosts Devon to claim the top spot with a great team total of 431.
You had to feel more sorry for Cornwall as they contested the individual loosing in the playoff but taking the spoon in the overall places.
The first afternoon match for the County was against the Home side Devon so it was really backs to the wall as we went down 5 -2 Harry Mann had a really early bath going down early doors but there were fine wins for Tom Parsons and George Long. Somerset beat Cornwall 6-1.
The team were up against Somerset and it was a hard morning for some as somerset fought hard to set up the afternoon decider against Devon. Harry Mann fought hard and ground out a fine 1up win as did Tom Parsons who was now on two out of two. jack Baker got a run out and found it a hard step up but with youth on his side the expereince will stand him in good stead for next year at his home club of Knighton Heath. Devon only just got past Cornwall 4-3 to set up the afternoon decider with Somerset.
Matchplay Results Day Two am
The afternoon brought us up against Cornwall both looking to aviod the dreaded "Wooden Spoon" thankfully our boys finnally got to grips and knuckled down for a fine win 5-2 thus avioding the spoon which went to Cornwall. Tom Parsons concluuded with another fine win and an unbeasten record in the match play. Dominic had a disappointing match play phase as he went down 4&3 and Joe Lovery had the best of the afternoon winning 6&5.
Devon not unexpectedly prevailed with their very strong junior side, taking both the team stroke-play and match-play trophies yet again.
We now look forward to hosting next year at Knighton Heath GC
