With a wet morning it was pleasing to see the sun shining bright prior to the tee off for this years County Inter-Club Mixed Foursomes at Weymouth. The course was presented to the players in excellent condition so the only problem for the players was the strong wind as scoring proved difficult.
The scratch trophy was well contested Ashley Beckett last years winner had a new partner in Carol C and were out first and with 85 were the early leaders they were soon overtaken when Kevin Robinson and Alice Plumb Yeovil came in with 82. The brother and sister pairing from Highcliffe Castle of Tom and Emma Higgins came home in 78 and took the lead by four shots. DG&CC pair of Mike Chapman and Tracy Bazell took second spot with 80 but were left pondering the eight down the sixteenth when sadly for Tracy she played the wrong ball. Dudsbury pair Tom Parsons and Louise Simms took third with a 81. So as can be seen scoring was tough and all credit to Tom and Emma on there win. It was good to see Tom back on the County scene and we look forward to seeing more.
The Handicap section was well supported with some 18 pairs taking part, there was some vast differences in the scoring but overall everyone enjoyed themselves. Great credit to them all as they had to deal with both the wind and as evening fell some squally showers, which for some proved to much, that said the scoring was good for those that kept it straight, Stuart and Jenny Scott Lyme Regis were early leaders on 74.5 and were then pushed into second by Roger and Chris Pearce Parkstone on 73.5. The Handicap pairing of Trevor and Binny Blackburn from DG&CC went one better than their scratch counter parts with a super round and net score of 68.5 to take the Handicap Championship
Last years winners Richard and Christine Laws from Parkstone had a good 74 putting them into third place.
Next year we will be at Sherborne GC on Sunday 16 September 2012 so come on let us see more clubs taking part.
