The Junior Knockout played over the past months came to it’s conclusion at the Dorset Golf & Country Club today. Last years winners Ferndown had both there A & B teams in the semi finals with the A playing Crane Valley with the B team up against Knighton Heath. Whilst all the matches were close and it looked to be going one way then the other Crane eventually ran out 4 – 2 winners against Ferndown ‘A’ whilst Ferndown ‘B’ saw of the challenge of Knighton Heath.
After lunch the final got under way and for a long time it was nip and tuck with the Ferndown players having to give a fair few shots. The in form harry Mann buoyant from his ace on Sunday at remedy saw off Tom Murphy 3&2, Ollie Hayter took a commanding 4 hole lead against Sam Wrixson but then Sam produced some fine golf to get back at Ollie who then lost his way leaving Sam to clean up 3&2. Chris Evans on the other hand found himself 4 down after 4 but with some steely resolve fought hard to run up a very solid 2&1 victory. Steady Jack Fairhall was never troubled although it got tight when his opponent had a run of some six shots but in the end it was a comfortable win for Jack. Connor Smith and Josh Key had a nip and tuck game and when this one went down the eighteenth with josh one up it looked very much like we were going in to overtime, sadly for Josh a missed 18 inch putt lost him the hole and it secured the halve point that Ferndown required to secure the win. Young Josh Lambley won 1up against James Durrant to finish things off but the Shield was back in Ferndown hands by this time. A great days golf and our thanks to all the players who took part. We also extend a huge thanks to the management team at the Dorset Golf & Country Club for allowing us the use of the course and looking after us so well.
