On a bright morning following the heavy showers on Saturday we played at Salford Golf Club against Somerset in our fifth channel league game of the season.
Tom and Joe continued their impressive foursomes record leading the way. 1up on the last tee Joe hit a great drive onto the back of green at the par 4 meaning they won 2 up
Match 2 had Andy Simpson and debutant Scott Meek against a very strong pairing losing 5/4.
Andy Robson and Nick Hopwood in match 3 were up until the 15th when a Somerset birdie squared the match. They then unfortunately lost the next two holes finishing 2/1.
Zac and Ollie were also up against it losing 7/5 as were Jake and Alex who lost 6/5.
That left the morning score at 4-1 in favour of Somerset.
In the afternoon singles the wind picked up but the sun was shining.
Tom Kollberg led the way with a fine 3/2 win. Match 2 reversed this unfortunately and Joe had a 3/2 loss.
Andy Simpson in match 3 played well again winning the 17th to finish a 2/1 victory.
Zac in the 4th game was 4up early on but was pegged back to 1up after 15. He won the 16th and closed out 17 winning 3/1 against the South West champion Curtis Edwards.
Scott in match 5 fought hard but a fast finish by his opponent meant he lost 3/1.
In match 6 Alex was up against it from the start losing 7/6. Jake was in match 7 in a very close game with some excellent play but losing 1 down.
Ollie in match 8 lost 6/4 and Andy Robson in the 9th game was on the wrong end of a 3/2. Finally Nick fought hard in the anchor match but also lost 3/2.
So after a promising start this afternoon Somerset were too strong in the back end of the singles. Well played to them. Final score 11-4 in favour of Somerset.
Our next match is at Dudsbury on 6th August.
