Dorset County

On a slightly cooler day than we have been used which was nice, to Dorset u16 played Devon u16s at Weymouth golf course.  On paper the Devon side looked stronger with handicaps ranging from 1 to 6.  What Dorset did have was 3 players that where home players plus 1 other that had been a member for many years up to recently.

So as the foursome started we as a team where in a positive mood..... as usual golf soon turns everything on its head.  The top 2 which had home advantage knowledge could only produce ½ point although the Devon boys did play well, group 3 Ollie Park and Aiden Holloway produced a great performance to edge a point 2 and 1, unfortunately the 4^th group struggled and never really got into the match so at Lunch we trailed 1 ½ to 2 ½

After a quick pep talk the singles started, leading out was Alex Johnston and he was always in charge producing a very solid win with a 5 and 3 win over Devon’s top player, Sam Trott followed and it was a very close match going one way and the other and finally after being 2 up with 3 to play Sam hole a great 15ft putt on the 18^th for the half.

Ollie park never got going and went down 6 and 4, so it was down to the middle pack to produce and they did, firstly Mannie Wellman won 5 and 4 and never looked in trouble, Jack Pallister followed him with a 3 and 2 win and again it never looked like anything else, in match 6 Josh brook was 1 up going up 17^th and after both players struggled josh calmly 2 putted to win 2 and 1.

We lost match 7 although dean was 6 down at one stage so was great to see him keep fighting.

And so to the final group and Aiden Holloway produced what I think was the best win, as Aiden has been struggling with his game, growing pains and new clubs but 4 and3 win and played really well.

We won!!!!

Great win, the boys attitude and team spirit was fantastic.

Thanks to Weymouth staff and club for allowing us to use there course, thanks for Eddie for coming down and supporting us.  Parents and grandparents thanks for bringing them and you support.

Most of all well done to the boys that’s a great win.
