Dorset Seniors competed in the South West Counties Golf Association Championships at Bristol and Clifton Golf Club on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st July.
Whilst unfortunately we were not quite able to reproduce last years result and so qualify for the National Senior County Finals for a record 4 times in a row, we did make up ground on the second day with some gritty performances and finished a very credible second in the Team event. A little more luck and rubs of the green going our way would have seen us home.
We did however win the South West Counties Individual Championship title for the 3rd year in a row with Tony Coles from Ashley Wood Golf Club romping home to win by 5 clear shots, following on from Gary Earl’s win last year and Phil Bill’s the previous time.
(Gary commented that he was only taking the Individual Trophy to the competition so that players from other Counties could see what it looked like!)
Ashley Beckett awoke from his slumbers in the first round to score an excellent 71 in the second round after being well under par for a large part of the second round and finished in a credible 4th place.
We now look forward to our next match versus Kent at The Ashley Wood Golf Club on 2nd August.
