A very close match, foursomes 2.5/2.5 with a big win by Rhys Cartwright-Terry and Dan Porter on their Under 18 debuts, a solid win for debutant Oscar Davis and Ben White, who himself was playing for the U18’s for the second time. Toby Trott & Archie Tolman halved which means they remain unbeaten as a foursomes pairing in the Roy Greenaway league this year.

Afternoon singles saw some very close matches, 2 wins on the 18th from Zac Mudford and Archie Tolman plus halved matches from Jake Moore, whose opponent was 4 under after 6 holes, Toby Trott and Rhys Cartwright-Terry. Overall 50% of the matches went down the 18th. Dan Porter continued his great start to his U18 career with a 5&3 victory. Sadly the other 4 matches were wins by Cornwall, albeit Ben White’s was a 2&1 loss on the 17th. Overall the singles finished 5.5/ 4.5 in Cornwall’s favour giving them an overall 8:7 victory.

A great match, with some superb golf played. Massive thanks to Broadstone for hosting the match, course was in great condition, dry and bouncy making it a tough test and the bar and catering staff looked after both teams very well.

Whilst Cornwall had some younger players in their team, Dorset had 6 of the U18 squad unavailable, which gave a great opportunity for more of the U16 boys to taste U18 competition. Congratulations to Cornwall, who could go on and win the league with a victory against Somerset later this week. For Dorset we will finish either 2nd or 3rd in our first season in the Roy Greenaway League. With a second place in the Four Counties stroke play, second place in the Four Counties matchplay, 3rd place in the SW Boys team Championship it’s not been a bad season so far for the U18’s. Just the Triangular against Hampshire and Sussex to go in early September.
